How does Apero run cold email?

Listen, cold email is not for everybody. The companies we work with who are actually doing well at this have a very high-converting offer. They know their ICP. They just don't have the technology or infrastructure to scale it. In addition to our more esoteric and revenue operations-type offers, this is something we do for select clients who we believe are suitable partners for this service.

What is different about how Apero runs cold email?

We double-verify every email. Depending on the campaign, we filter out certain email security gateways. We segment campaigns by whether they are hitting Proofpoint or Mimecast, so we can monitor deliverability per campaign and per client.

We stagger emails to the same domains so we do not flip any alarms on the recipient's end.

If you want to send cold email at scale, there is actually a lot you need to know about email security. Our Head of GTM's background selling to cybersecurity firms enables him to understand that to an intimate level.

Why does Apero use EmailBison and EmailGuard?

EmailBison is a gated, exclusive sequencer. It does not let amateurs send on it, so we are not beholden to the mistakes other senders are making and how those mistakes hit the warmup pool.

EmailGuard is how we watch the other side of the send. SPF, DKIM, and DMARC on the domains. Blacklist checks. Inbox placement tests against seed inboxes. Spam filter scores before a sequence goes live. Gmail and Microsoft change the rules constantly. Placement tests tell us whether mail is still landing before we raise volume.

These are premium tools, picked because they are resistant to the ebbs and flows of the changing email security landscape. The sequencer and the placement layer have to hold when the filters move. That is the infrastructure clients do not have when the offer already converts and the ICP is known.

Instrument

The Apero cold email calculator estimates annual pipeline by multiplying daily send volume by 260 sending days, your reply rate, your reply-to-meeting rate, your meeting-to-opportunity rate, and your opportunity size. Close rate converts that pipeline into expected closed revenue.

$25,000

Average closed-won value, in dollars.

20%

Opportunities that become closed won.

250

What you could send, across inboxes.

1%

Starts at 1%. You can take it to 0%, or up to 30%.

15%

Replies that become a booked meeting.

40%

Meetings that become a real opportunity.

Questions

How does the cold email calculator work?

The cold email calculator multiplies daily send volume by 260 sending days, then applies your reply rate, reply-to-meeting rate, meeting-to-opportunity rate, and opportunity size to estimate annual pipeline. Close rate turns that pipeline into expected closed revenue.

Why does reply rate start at 1%?

The cold email calculator starts reply rate at 1% so the first number is conservative. You can take it down to 0% or up to 30%. Tight, well-chosen lists can beat 1%. Bought lists often do not.

Why does Apero use EmailBison and EmailGuard?

Apero uses EmailBison, a gated exclusive sequencer that does not let amateurs send on it, so campaigns are not beholden to the mistakes other senders make and how those mistakes hit the warmup pool. EmailGuard handles authentication, blacklists, and inbox placement tests. Those are premium tools, chosen because they hold up as email security rules change.
